About Us
Matt Todd University is owned and operated by, you guessed it, Matt Todd himself. We have never had employees or pawned off the teaching service to other people. We focus exclusively on only the best practices for test prep, admissions strategies, and student enrichment. This is not a parlor trick or quick fix type program. Learning actual content doesn’t have to be boring or arduous, and in the end, it always yields superior results.
About Matt Todd
Matt grew up as the youngest in a family of six in a rough school district. With very little family support, he managed to make it through one of the lowest ranking high schools in CA, crush the SAT, attend UC Berkeley, and in his junior year at Cal start tutoring the other UC Berkeley students. He fell in love with supporting and empowering students who were lost and struggling. Upon graduation in 2004, he began tutoring privately immediately and never stopped.

It’s incredible if you consider the sheer volume of content around college admissions. Test prep companies are a dime a dozen leaving most students and parents to wonder, “what’s the difference?” Well, here’s the thing. Online test prep is very popular because it seems like an easy product to produce. Record some videos, put them on a site, charge for access to the library and BOOM! You’re another test prep provider, but that’s not real test prep. That’s similar to giving someone the keys to the Harvard library and saying that this is the same as getting a degree from Harvard. That’s just not reality.
The MTU program is not just a cache of content, static and ridged. After developing 1,000s of custom problems, we’ve taken them and created a diagnostic based learning method. Students pick their own level to start, and then start by taking diagnostic tests. These aren’t too long, so if you only have 30 minutes to work, no problem, and they’re designed to reflect perfectly the material on the actual tests. The tests allow you to get a section of varied problems done and then instantly see what you got right, what you got wrong, and more importantly, give you custom instructional videos that take you through each individual problem you missed. You see immediately how the problem can be done effectively and efficiently, and to make sure you don’t make the same mistake again, each instructional video offers a second problem that is almost identical to the original that allows you to practice the new skill immediately. You can’t be expected to learn a concept and then wait to use it at some undetermined time in the future. You need to learn the concept and then practice it immediately.
As students work through the diagnostic tests, they watch and practice only the videos and problems they need, wasting zero time going through LENGTHY, often ineffective “lessons” offered by most other online prep courses. As students improve, they can move onto more difficult tests and continue refining their skills and building their knowledge. Effective, efficient, individual based learning - this is the path to progress that MTU offers.

It’s easy to select an online prep that boasts a large number of practice problems and a huge number of videos, but this is the same as just buying LARGER AND LARGER TEST PREP BOOKS. The vast majority of 1,000 page books that parents buy for their students almost never get used because it’s not just about explaining an algebra problem perfectly. It’s about actually teaching the algebra problem. That might mean hearing a concept in a different way. It may mean seeing a different type of the same problem. It may mean saying it in a way that doesn’t put students to sleep! Once students join the MTU community, they gain access to not only an enormous battery of content, but they also get mastery access. Matt is constantly publishing new problems and content to which only subscribers have access. Having an issue with a certain circle problem? Shoot Matt an email. Don’t like angles? Let us know.
